From Precursors to Hazard Risks: Using Mechanics, Computing and UQ to Mitigate and Manage Catastrophic Events

Abani PatraUniversity of Buffalo

In this session,  we seek submissions in the large and emerging research areas integrating mechanics and computing with data from monitoring and modeling to analyze the impact of a range of natural hazards. Such analysis for a large set of natural hazards from hurricanes and storm surges to earthquakes and volcanic activity is a large societal threat that is increasingly important as human activity and rapid changes in the environment increase the frequency and cost of such disasters. Research in uncertainty analysis, higher fidelity simulations of unprecedented natural phenomena and coupling of models are key issues.
